The governing party has lost its majority in the Eastern Provincial Council following Sri Lanka Muslim Congress’ (SLMC) defection from the government. |
The governing held the majority in the Eastern Provincial Council with only one seat. The SLMC’s decision has resulted in the ruling party losing the support of eight MPs, 13 Provincial Council members and 163 Local Government members. A total of 184 public representatives of the SLMC have joined the common opposition along with the SLMC. |
