Gotabhaya Rajapaksa Fled the Country By Escaping into Maldives

According to the reports of the Colombo based English media, the Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has fled the country through an Air force plane by fleeing into Maldives.

The moment he started receiving the messages of the presidential election results, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa along with his wife Aoyama, through a Srilankan Air Force Plane fled to Maldives. Since at Singapore the Military Air force Planes are not allowed to land, the other option is to go to Maldives, where the Visa is not mandatory. Similarly, the sons of Mahinda Rajapaksa also fled the country by fleeing into China. Having known the election results in advance Mahinda wanted to delay the announcement of the election results. Rajapaksa wanted to declare emergency in the country, for that purpose he had urged the Attorney General to prepare necessary papers to declare the state of emergency in Srilanka. But the Attorney General has refused to do so. Later on Ranil Wickremesinghe contacted Mahinda Rajapaksa and requested him to leave the presidential palace in a peaceful manner and for that purpose all the necessary security protection is provided to him. Accordingly, Ranil Wickremesinghe went to the Temple Tree Presidential Palace and taken Mahinda Rajapaksa to a Business Man’s house located in Torrington Avenue to stay over there.
