Palitha Thewarapperuma arrested

Ruling party Parliamentarian Palitha Thewarapperuma has been arrested by the Colombo Crime Division(CCD), a short while ago, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said.

He added that the CCD will obtain a statement from Thewarapperuma and further legal measures will be taken accordingly. MP Thewarapperuma has been accused of making a UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member Murugan Pushpakumara kneel down on the road and assaulting him, during the recent opening of a SLFP office in Agalawatta, Kalutara. President Maithripala Sirisena has also instructed the IGP o appoint a team of officers to investigate on the incident.
