Thousand Prisoners are Released to mark the Pope’s Visit

One Thousand Prisoners are going to be released to mark the Pope Francis-I visit to Sri Lanka. All over Sri Lanka the prisoners who are serving sentences for their petty crimes and also prisoners who cannot afford to pay their penalties are going to be released as a goodwill gesture of peace.
The Spokesperson of the Prisons Department has said, “On a goodwill gesture for the Pope’s Visit to Sri Lanka, one thousand prisoners from all over Sri Lanka, who cannot afford and unable to pay their cash penalties and the prison inmates who have committed petty crimes will be liberated out of the prison”.
With regard to the releasing of these prisoners, at the Justice Department, the Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse had a discussion yesterday.
This morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Welikada Prison an event function to be held to release these prisoners.
