Monks will commit mass suicide

Monks of the Sihala Ravaya have threatened to commit suicide in protest, if the Government fails to remove illegal settlers in the 52-acre sacred Buddhist site at Kuragala.

National organiser of the Sihala Ravaya, the venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana said that even though the previous government had removed the illegal settlers, a Minister under the new government has begun resettling some of the families in the same area. The monk said that the government would be given two weeks to settle the issue, failing which they would take matters into their own hands.
