People returned back to their homes after 25 years.
Four days ago a special discussion held with Harim Peries, secretary to the ministry of resettlement activities at the Jaffna district secretariat and decided to release 233 acres of lands belongs to Waligamam North, East divisional secretariat including Valai J/284 grama seva division.
However people were unable to recognize their land boundaries. Village was completely turned in to forest.
These people displaced from their home town on 1990 after that these areas announced as high security zones. New government agrees to release 100 acres of lands in the Waligamam North High Security zone.
As first step 272 families from Walai visited their lands around 10.00 am today. The Chairman of the Kopai Divisional Secretariat had taken people to their own lands. Military personals evacuated the security fence from the site.
Without any military interferences people visited their own land , but only few houses were found at the site rest of them are completely destroyed.
People are permitted to clean up their lands and resettlement activities will take place by 31st of March.
Kopai Divisional Secretariat M.Pradeeban together with his office employees carried out registration activities.
Tamil National Alliance Northern Provincial Council member K.Sarvesuran was also present at the site.
