Rajitha Senaratne said, "We know that Avant Garde worked closely with the Nigerian Government and supplied them with arms. We are now examining the likelihood of Avant Garde having had dealings, including arms supplies, with Boko Haram. The Ministry of External Affairs is in touch with the Nigerian Government with regard to possible weapons dealings. Suspicions of Avant Garde's possible involvement in arms dealings with terror organizations". Minister Rajitha Senaratne said "The former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has affirmed that none of the weapons belong to the government. In that case where did they come from? We suspect them to have come from the LTTE". He added that the government had not kept any systematic record of weapons and gold collected from the LTTE, especially during the last stages of the war, when thousands of weapons of fallen from LTTE, arms caches, sophisticated multi-barrel weapons, gold and other valuables fell into government hands. Minister Senaratne further said that they are investigating whether they had contacts with Boko Haram since it has been revealed that they had arms deals with Nigeria as well. In addition he said that the government is suspicious from where they got these weapons since the relevant officials said they never sold government weapons. So there's a suspicion as to whether they sold LTTE weapons. |
