Women in Jaffna protested on Saturday against the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leadership, accusing it of not taking any action over the ongoing sexual attacks against Tamil women in the Northern province.

Over 25 women held placards and held a protest march beginning from Jaffna public library.

“You have no capacity to help our livelihood; You have failed to protect our honour and dignity," one placard read.

Targetting senior TNA figures, including the leader of the TNA, R Sampanthan, and the MP, Mavai Senathirajah, other placards read: “Sir Sampanthan, is the TNA a place for you to rest?” and “Mavai Senathi, what is the response to the complaint made to you?”

Effigies of both TNA figures were burnt in front of the offices of the main constituent party of the TNA, the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi.

Other placards read: “Sexual attacks, previously in Kilinochchi, now in Vanni, tomorrow in Jaffna?”; “Maithiri government! Arrest the culprits"; “Police, take action” and “Tamil people, seek justice."
