A Sri Lankan court has ordered the Judicial Medical Officers to hand over the post mortem report of former rugby player, who died under suspicion circumstances, to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of police.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Nishantha Peiris has ordered four Judicial Medical Officers to handover the postmortem report and photos related to the death of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen to the CID.
The order has been issued to three judicial medical officers of Colombo district and a JMO of Puttalam district.
The CID has informed the court that Wasim Thajudeen had died from an accident that took place when his car crashed into a wall near the Shalika grounds at Narahenpita on 17 May 2012.
The Police have said that the Judicial Medical Officer's report into the death of former Havelock's captain and Sri Lankan rugby player had revealed that his death could not have been due to natural causes.
According to police reports at the time, the rugby player was driving home after attending a party when he lost control of the car and crashed into a wall on Park Road. The car had exploded instantly and burnt the victim.
There have been various reports over Thajudeen's death, which was alleged by some as a murder, due to the mysterious manner in which his body was burnt inside his car.
The circumstances of the accident raised suspicions and the mystery was further deepened by the slow pace of the investigation into the death.
It was also alleged that Thajudeen at the time of his death had had a disagreement with the son of a powerful VIP.
Thajudeen, a past student of St. Thomas College, was the vice-captain of the Sri Lanka national school rugby team in 2003. Having won the Sri Lankan colors in 2007, he represented Sri Lanka in Hong Kong seven nation rugby tournaments in 2008. He was the skipper of the Havelock's SC in 2009.
The 28-year-old player was also awarded the most popular rugby player of the year in 2009. (Thanks CP)
