Internal probe on month of September: Mangala Samaraweera

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that a domestic mechanism will be in place by September to probe into the alleged human rights violations during the final stages of decades-long war with the LTTE.

This investigations would be commence prior to the 30th United Nation Human Rights Commission session schedule on month of September. Government earlier promised to conduct internal probe on Lankan war crimes. Minister Samaraweera made this statement on responding to visiting US Secretary of States John Kerry "true reconciliation" with Tamils will take time, even as he praised the "openness" of the new government in efforts to boost democracy, human rights and reaching out to the minority community.
