As the encroachment of fishermen from South, their livelihood has severely been affected, fishermen from Mullaitivu district stated miserably.
There are several small huts were set up at Mullaitivu coastal areas. The fishermen from South stay at there and engaged in fishing.
Encroachment of fishermen from South is still continuing. These Sinhala fishermen are engaged in fishing across the waters of Mullaitivu district.
Mullivaikal Sea, where the final phase of war taken place, is also not kept free by the fishermen from South. Anyone who goes to the place where final war taken place, which seems to be a tourist place, can see the huts set up for the fishermen from South.
Also, it can be seen that the protection given by the army to these Sinhala fishermen and beneficiary foods taken from the trees being taken away from there by the fishermen from South.
While already the Tamils who have been living years and years at Kokulai have been struggling for their fishing rights at their waters, encroachment of fishermen from South extending to Nayaru, Mullaitivu coastals, Mullivaikal and Kattaikadu continues.
Meanwhile, there are most probabilities to their livelihoods get worse affected as the fishermen from South are engaged in fishing at Mullaitivu using prohibited fishing nets, fishermen from Mullaitivu district stated.
In the meantime, it is further accused by them that their livelihoods are also affected by the Indian fishermen who are engaged in fishing at Mulliaitivu waters using trawlers.
District authorities, Military, Police and all other sections provide support for the fishermen from South to stay and engage in fishing, fishermen belonging to Mullaitivu district stated.
Their livelihoods have been unprecedentedly affected since the Southern fishermen take their fullest control of coastal areas from Mullivaikal to Vattuvakal, fishermen belonging to Mullaitivu district further added.
Southern fishermen encroach their waters while they are in a situation to restore their lives by engaging in their livelihoods after severely being affected by war, fishermen belonging to Mullaitivu expressed their anxiety.
