From Gandhi statue located at the center of Point Pedro city after paying floral tribute to Gandhi statue, started protesting at around 9:30 AM.
This rally started from Gandhi statue has reached Point Pedro Pillaiyar temple where silent prayers for the soul of the affected student rest in peace featured.
Meanwhile, memorandum has been handed over to Point Pedro Judge, Sri Lanka's police chief and ASP of Point Pedro area through Pedro Pedro OIC.
This particular protest was intended to be staged on 26th of last month. But, Police had reportedly filed for the protest to be barred by the Point Pedro court, but the presiding judge refused to issue a ban on the grounds that it would be undemocratic.
People have the right to stage demonstrations and protests in a democratic country. By stating that the duty of the police is to provide security without causing any violence, Point Pedro court Judge M.Ganesharasa refused issue a ban on this protest.
Though the Court refused to ban the protest, the organizers of the protest gave up staging the protest on that particular day.
Point Pedro police were mobilized in large numbers all around the city prior to this protest.
