Interference of occupying Sri Lankan military in North is continuously being as an operation of exerting pressure on the people, Vanni region reporter of Global Tamil News stated.
People realized that military regime prevailing in North is still continuing as the continuous military patrols and raids are kept on continuing even after the regime change.
No military soldiers can be seen if we pass the checkpoint located in Vavuniya. They monitor the people by engaging in the military patrols throughout the streets of the north.
People in north are subjected to intimidation of military and threatening life as they are continuously being monitored by the Sri Lankan military. According to the people in north, they are in a plight of answering the questions of Sri Lankan military anytime.
Meanwhile, “Women like me are subjected to panic and tension in the militarized environment”, one of the young widows living in Vallipunam stated.
“Woman head households have been facing military oppressions. Military soldiers are wandering as the ones who came for picnic”, she further described.
Yesterday, two university students died in Visuvamadukulam while they were bathing. Many including students have gathered at Dharmapuram hospital where the dead bodies of them were kept.
Military intelligence operatives have also arrived at the scene and engaged in monitoring activities as in a manner of those, who were sad due to the demise of the students, being intimidated. Military in uniform has also investigated those who gathered there.
Civil actions of the people are being interfered by the Sri Lankan military in north. While police and judge were in a position of bringing the death report, Sri Lankan military behaved like this.
These incidents clearly indicate that military regime is functioning in north and about the severity of militarization prevailing there. None of the people want them to be continuously monitored, hindered and bothered by those who in military uniforms.
These sorts of incidents insist the unsafe and threatening environment to these people. In accordance with the opinions made by many, this threatening environment is not healthy for the people who were already subjected to many troubles.
Sri Lankan government in South grants permission to keep on deploying the Sri Lankan military soldiers in north. But the people in north have been facing the same challenges prevailed during the war in this militarized environment.
