I have been struggling for the rerun of my child who was disappeared. I am not going to break it till he gets released, Thankarani Mahenthiran stated. She is one of the weeping mothers who are searching for their children with immense tragedies and memories of them.
Mothers of those, who were disappeared from north and east, jointly voiced urging international inquiry instead of internal probe into disappearances.
It cannot be portrayed that these mothers are just shedding tears. Struggling for those who were disappeared is struggle for human rights.
Struggles of the mothers like this are gained significant importance in the countries where crisis prevailing. Those who celebrate the Human Rights Day should answer for these human rights violations committed in this regard.
“I want my child”, Thankarani Mahenthiran said vigorously and miserably.
“My son name is Mahenthiran Piratheepan. At last, I saw him at Mullivaikal in2009, January. Known persons saw him when he was surrendering to the military. My son was asking them where were my mother when he went to surrender to the military”, she further said with tears.
The government should answer for the questions of this mother stating “CID often called me to investigate about my son. They inquired me about him as he is alive. He did not commit any crimes. He was born in 1990. Why did they arrest my little child?”
“CID frequently called me and investigated about my son. They investigated me about my son as he is alive. Isn’t it? He did not commit any wrong doings. He was born in 1990. CID operatives who came to my home told me that I would be provided some money and the death certificate of my son. But I stressed that what I want is only my son”, she further added.
“I do not want money even which is several lakhs in amount. Nothing is dispensable to my son. What I only want is my son. I want this government to return my son. I will go wherever the protests staged. I will fight to return my child”, she stated.
I searched everywhere. Nowhere is neglected. I searched my son everywhere in Colombo. A person came to my home and asked me to give money saying that my son is detained at Joseph Camp and he wants money for his expenses. I give him money and then I went there also but returned to home with huge disappointment”, she miserably said.
This mother who spoke with tears and pain watches her son’s photo again and again. With the expectation and the hope of her son’s return, this mother is living in an empty home.
