Organization for seeking the disappeared relatives has taken a decision to boycott the Independence Day of Sri Lanka which is going to be celebrated on upcoming 4th of February. In addition, this organization stated that it strongly condemns the statement revealed by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health.
Representatives of the Organization for seeking the disappeared relatives from Jaffna, Killinochchi, Vavuniya, Mannar and Mullaitivu districts and the Mannar Citizen Committee had a discussion among them at Killinochchi Cooperative Hall. This resolution has been taken during this discussion. Rev.Fr. Sebamalai, the Chairman of Mannar District Citizen Committee further stated that they had made some other resolutions also.
He further expressed his strong condemns about the statement revealed by the Prime Minister on the issues of disappeared persons. If those who were disappeared are not alive, then what happened to those who were disappeared by the Sri Lankan military which abducted and arrested them? What will be the just solution to the victims?
Organization for seeking the disappeared relatives further strongly condemns the statement of Rajitha Seneratne, the Minister of Health, who stated that the arrangements are being made to issue Death Certificates to the missing persons. No justice would be made available to the disappeared persons, the Rev.Fr added. These kinds of approaches would not be accepted by the Organization for seeking the disappeared relatives, he emphasized.
“Dragging on the time by the Presidential Commission headed by Paranagama cannot be accepted. Therefore, the investigations on the missing persons should be carried out with the participation the International Red Cross”, he highlighted.
