The Sri Lankan military planted a branch of Buddhist sacred tree at the army base in Kilinochchi on January 2nd.
The tree branch was planted at a ceremony led by the Buddhist monk, Higurakande Sumana, the chief monk of the Buddhist temple established in Mankulam in Kilinochchi since the end of the armed conflict.
The 'Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi' tree in Anuradhapura, is considered sacred by Sinhala Buddhists.
