The problems of Tamils should be resolved by formulating the new Constitution without any delays, says the Opposition Leader R.Sampanthan. Mr Sampanthan made this observation while addressing the Parliament during the debate over the motion to convert the Parliament into a Constitutional Assembly. The Opposition leader stated that while all parties had come to an agreement to formulate a new constitution, parties should not delay the progress by unnecessarily quarreling. ‘Sri Lanka is currently governed by the 1978 constitution, many of whose provisions are not applicable to the present day Sri Lanka. A new Constitution should therefore be formulated as quick as possible to address the long term ethnic question of the country’, he added.
