New outfit urges UNHRC to insist Colombo on resolution implementation

A new outfit called “The Sri Lanka Monitoring Accountability Panel (MAP),” has expressed concern on Wednesday, over Colombo President Maithripala Sirisena not agreeing to any international involvement in the Geneva resolved investigations and has urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that he should insist on Colombo consulting all stakeholders and respecting its international commitments in implementing the resolution. The outfit claims that it has been established to provide independent monitoring, advice, and recommendations on the transitional justice mechanisms in Sri Lanka.”

The Panel members come from the USA, UK, France and India.

We focus on accountability from a victims’ perspective […] The victims’ voice must be heard, the letter from the panel to UNHCHR said.

The Establishments of the countries from where the panel members come have never heard the victims’ voice. It would be more meaningful and productive if the panel could primarily address these Establishments, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

The panel was condemning Maithripala Sirisena rejecting international involvement by saying: “[w]e have more than enough specialists, experts and knowledgeable people in our country to solve our internal issues”.

Of course, Sirisena is more than right. Without such expertise, genocidal Sri Lanka couldn’t have been able to ‘convince’ the masters of the world, or perhaps the masters and the agent display joint expertise, the activists responded.

The accountability concern of the ‘Sri Lanka’ panel is confined only to upholding the “rule of law and to build confidence in the people of all communities of Sri Lanka” When have the ‘Sri Lanka’ unionists became victims, for the victims’ perspective MAP to focus on such an agenda, asked the Tamil activists.
