Resolution, which has been proposed by the parliamentarian Sritharan and seconded it by the Chief Minister of NPC, that occupying Sri Lankan military should be withdrawn from private and public lands which are still being occupied by them, passed at the Killinochchi Development Committee meeting held yesterday.
Second session of District Development Committee meeting held at the auditorium of Killinochchi District Secretariat yesterday around 9 o’clock under the leadership of co-chairs; the Chief Minister of NPC and parliamentarians Sritharan and Ankajan. This resolution passed during this meeting.
“It seems that military is not here for the security reasons. They are here in many more numbers unwontedly. This is the biggest issue for us. I have taken this issue to the attention of many including the President and the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights. However, there has been no progress in this regard”, Wigneshwaran, the Chief Minister of NPC, stated.
In this second session of the District Development Committee meeting held yesterday, apart from the four subjects discussed at the last meeting, only 10 subjects including education, local government, electricity, water supply, roads, fisheries, transport, urban development, Palm resources and resettlement have been taken into consideration among the 17 subjects.
Each of the issues pertaining to each sector has been discussed but no concrete decisions towards solutions have been taken during this meeting.
Many including the parliamentarian Mavai Senethiraja, Northern Provincial Education Minister Kurukularaja, GA Suntharam Arumainayaham, the Chief Secretary of Northern Province Paththinathan, NPC members, the Divisional Secretaries and officials participated in this second session of District Development Committee meeting.
