Land disputes are increased in the Eastern Province and, 17 896 complaints have been registered so far since year 2013, according to the Ministry of Land.
17 896 complaints regarding the land disputes during the last three years have been made. 3428 complaints from Trincomalee district and 9453 complaints from Amparai have been registered.
Meanwhile, 1256 complaints have been registered from Batticaloa district. According to the Ministry of Land, those who lost their lands were provided the lands. But, it is suspicious whether these data are the data regarding the new settlements.
1256 persons have been provided the plots of land in Trincomalee district. In addition, 2029, 831 persons have been provided the plots of land in Batticaloa and Ampara districts respectively. Thus, 4115 persons have been provided the plots of land in the Eastern Province, according to the Ministry of Land.
It has been stated that land disputes were raised due to the settlements from another districts. Those who were affected due to the settlements from another districts and settlers have been provided the plots of land.
Accordingly, 17, 896 land disputes were resolved, according to the Ministry of Land. 365, 294 and 1127 land disputes have been resolved in Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa districts respectively.
