Occupying Sinhala military's 233 Brigade has been ploughing the grounds of the largest Tamil Eelam Heroes Cemetery in Batticaloa with the genocidal motive of deploying illegal Sinhala settlers to do cultivation in the grounds where more than 675 fallen Tamil fighters lay buried. The gruesome act has been committed for during the past 2 weeks despite repeated pleas from the Tamil civil sources to the government officials in Batticaloa district not to hurt the sentiments of Eezham Tamils. The present regime of Maithiripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickramasinghe, accompanied by former SL President Chandrika Kumaratunga, who are engaged in ‘Sinhala-Only’ determined ‘reconciliation’, have chosen to ignore the requests from the Tamil public, civil sources at the District Secretariat told TamilNet.

While the Indian intelligence and Indian media operatives were insinuating a section of side-lined groups of Eezham Tamils to drop the term ‘Eelam’ in their registered party names, the US-backed NGO and ‘civil society’ operatives based in Colombo and Geneva have been advocating for erasing the ‘Tamil’ identity in Eezham Tamils remembering those who sacrificed their lives. The occupying Sinhala military has created military bases at many of the Tamil Heroes cemeteries in the country of Eezham Tamils.
The SL military is still stationed in the grounds of Tamil Hereos Cemeteries situated at Thaa'ndiyadi in Paduvaan-karai (Paddippazhai DS division), Kiraan at Koara'laip-pattu South and at Vaakarai in Koara'laip-pattu North in Batticaloa district.
Tharavai Maaveerar Thuyilum Illam, created in 1987, is situated 40 km north of Batticaloa city.
