Government tells ex LTTE cadres, time to move forward

The Government today told a group of former LTTE cadres that the time has come to move forward following the end of the war. A group of rehabilitated former LTTE members visited Colombo today concluding their annual educational tour. The tour was organised by the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs. An event was held at the ‘Ape Gama’ premises in Battaramulla under the patronage of Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M Swaminathan, to welcome the rehabilitated ex LTTE members.

Swaminathan told the former LTTE members that some Tamil and Sinhalese groups are attempting to scuttle the peace in the country. He urged the rehabilitated LTTE members to live peacefully with all communities, including the Sinhalese communities. The educational tour is organised annually to promote reconciliation among the communities by bridging the gap between the North and the South. A group of 34 rehabilitated ex LTTE members from the Poonthottam Rehabilitation Centre in Vavuniya participated in the tour. They arrived in Colombo today after visiting Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle. Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Major General Janaka Rathnayake, Minister Swaminathan’s Private Secretary Shane Dullewe and the officials of the Rehabilitation Ministry participated in the event.
