
A special discussion is scheduled to be held on the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday (April 28) at the Presidential Secretariat on release of lands which have been occupied by the army in the Northern Province. Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, Minister of Prisons Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M.Swaminathan, Land Minister John Amaratunga and State Minister of Child Affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran are participating in the discussion. The President had requested in the meeting held 18 last month in this regard, to submit a report over the matters of the land issue of the North. Therefore, the military had informed the army in need of lands in108 places in the North. Meanwhile, TNA parliamentarian S.Sritharan has forwarded a detailed report to the President over the land issue and requested him to take steps to release the lands being occupied by the army to the rightful owners. All those matters are expected to be taken up for discussion today.
