Sri Lankan military seeks time to reply UN report

Sri-Lankan-Army-720x480Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera stated that, they need time to reply UN report, highlighted widespread allegations of serious human rights violations, published by US State Department.

Although Sri Lanka had carried out various actions to achieve reconciliation, massive human rights violations were committed in Sri Lanka last year, as reported in the statement.
The report stated that, 11 Human Rights Crimes including sexual assaults, abductions and rape of children were committed by the Sri Lankan army.
Parents and siblings of 3 year old girl who was kidnapped in June last year were tortured by Police on the incident of kidnapping.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that they need time to reply on the UN report, when he was questioned on the incident.
He said to reply on the 18th of April after having discussions with the secretary of defence.
