Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Mustapha said the resolution passed by the Northern Provincial Council demanding for federal system of government for the North and East under the united government would not affect the sovereignty of the country.
Addressing the media on Monday (May 2) at the Ministry of Local Government he stated that the resolution would not give any pressure to the government.
Everyone has the right to tell his or her suggestion, adding, the NPC too did the same, he added.
He further added that President Maithripala Sirisena would not take any measure to divide the country, hence, the Parliament has the right to take any decision with regard to the sovereignty of the country and 2/3 majority needed for any implementation for such decision he said.
