Following consultations with the chairpersons of the regional groups of Member States, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has informed the General Assembly of his intention to appoint Erik Solheim of Norway as the new Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), said UN News Centre on Tuesday.
The UN News made a particular note of the “experience” of the Norwegian official.
Earlier, the EU rewarded him with the Chair post of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In similar lines, the New Delhi Establishment rewarded M.K. Narayanan with the West Bengal Governor post after his retirement.
These are acts not very different from genocidal Colombo appointing former military men to diplomatic positions.
Mr. Solheim is excusable if he was really star-crossed beyond his knowledge by designs of the elements of higher engineering. But his continued shielding of the larger and ultimate culprits and his attempts to twist historiography, for which he is perhaps rewarded now, will haunt him in history.
On the crime and continued political injustice committed against the nation of Eezham Tamils, justification of the paradigm and setting historiography are now the tasks of the system. Even on the eve of his good riddance from the UN, Mr Ban Ki-moon is at it.
