The Sri Lankan government will not accept foreign judges for the domestic mechanism but will accept foreign experts like former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did, Vocational Training and Development Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said. Addressing the media at the Government Information Department Auditorium, Colombo yesterday, he said the Office of Mission Persons has already been established.

“The Paranagama Commission report is also there. The domestic mechanism has already commenced,” the minister said. Samarasinghe said the UN never officially stated that 40,000 were killed during the last phase of the humanitarian operation. The UN only quoted what was mentioned in the book written by Gordon Wise. The Darusman Report also quoted the same, he said. “Sri Lanka has to work hard. There is still much to do to improve the ground situation. We have to continuously show that we are committed to achieving lasting reconciliation in this country,” Samarasinghe added.
