Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran stated that there was a plot in the meeting of the cabinet ministers and the chief ministers headed by the President last Monday to stop the economic zone which is to be established in the Northern Province. Addressing at the opening ceremony of the “Raja Plaza” model village consisting of 15 houses at Kondavil in the district of Jaffna on Thursday (June 23) the Chief Minister stated that the secret move came to light as he took part in the meeting. The Minister of Rural Economic Affairs, P.Harrison, had taken steps to establish the Economic Zone at Madawachchi since there was no stability among the Tamil community where to establish it, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen seems to support him, said Mr.Wigneswaran. The committee appointed to elaborate the suitable location of the economic zone suggested Omanthai in the district of Vavuniya, adding, if it locates at Thandikulam, College of Agriculture and the Agriculture Farm would be affected, the committee further suggested. President Maithripala Sirisena finally said to discuss with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and come to a conclusion. Though minister Rishad knows the bad impacts of the establishment of the economic zone at Thandikulam very well, he ignores it.
