A new home science building constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy for the students of Nunasai Vidyalayam in Madagal, Jaffna was opened recently (22nd Wednesday, June 2016).
The much needed facility was constructed by the Navy in response to a request made by the Principal of the school. The project was carried out under an initiative of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne with the aim of providing support to uplift the educational standards of the children in the area. The newly opened home science facility will offer a proper environment for students to engage in subject related activities.
In addition Navy also donated necessary kitchen utensils for the school and stationery items for the students.
Meanwhile Naval troops had deployed several teams comprising naval and coast guard personnel to ensure the safety of the devotees visiting Anuradhapura during the Poson season recently (16th -20th June). Accordingly, key water reservoirs located in Anuradapura including Abhaya Weva, Nuwara Weva, Kala Weva, Mahakanadarawa, Vilachchiya, Nachchaduwa, Rajanganaya and Thanthirimale were manned by 11 lifesaving teams to ensure the safety of the pilgrims who use these tanks for their needs during their stay in the sacred city.
In another instance Navy troops attached to SLNS Mahanaga in Panama provided food, water and medical facilities to a group of devotees who are on a two month long foot Pilgrimage (Pada Yathra) to Kataragama from Jaffna.
