Chairman of the  Presidential Commission to Investigate Complaints Regarding Missing Persons retired High Court Judge Maxwell Paranagama said that the government should pay compensation of Rs.500,000 or more at one time to the relatives of the missing persons in the North and East during the conflict in Sri Lanka.
He said that he had been toll to hand them over before July 15, 2016. Paranagama said that he had requested time till August 30 to finalize the process.
He added that the commission was in a position to enquire the forces with regard to the missing persons but there was not enough time to do so. Thus the commission is to give up the enquiry and to finalize the report to hand over.
He further added that the commission had learnt that the government has to do two things immediately, one, to pay compensation; and the other is to console the dear ones of the missing as they were unable to overcome from their grievances.dsc02854_25012016_kaa_cmy-720x480
