Colombo archbishop defends Buddhism's constitutional prominence

The archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith defended Buddhism first and foremost place in the Sri Lankan constitution.
"The prominence of the country relies on Buddhism and there should not be any decision to change its due place secured by the constitution as we all live in a country nourished by Buddhism," he was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying.
His remarks came amid increasing calls on the Sri Lankan government to ensure equal status for all religions on the island within a reformed constitution.
