Majority of Tamils living in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka have asked for a federal constitution, says S. Thavarasa, a member of the government’s Public Representations Committee (PRC) which interviewed thousands of citizens on what they would like to see in the new constitution that is to be drawn up soon.
Refuting the reported contention of PRC chairman Lal Wijenayake, that most Tamils did not seek federalism, Thavarasa said that he could produce documentary proof to show that the North-East Tamils demanded federalism.
When Athavan News questioned him about the Lal Wijenayake’s statement, he said the above. Further, majority of Northern and Eastern Tamils have asked for a federal constitution, but only a very few was against the federal system, he said.
