The President of University of Jaffna student Union was released on bail today (20th July).
He was released by Judge Sasitharan on two sureties of Rs 200,000 each. And the court postponed this case on 25th Of August 2016. Judge asked him to give statement to Kopay police. Student union President made a request to the Judge to give permission to make a complaint at police about this clash, judge granted permission to him.
Parliamentarian M. A Sumanthiran was attending as lawyer for the President of student union.
Jaffna University Students’ Union president before court
The President of the University of Jaffna student Union was produced before courts today.
Sinhalese students at the Jaffna University clashed with Tamil students earlier on Saturday, as violence erupted over the use of a Kandyan dance from the south of the island at a traditional orientation programme.
Police tried to arrest three Tamil students after got complaints from Sinhala students. Therefore Tuesday (19th July) Koppay police investigated Thisitharan the president of Student Union and recorded statement from him.
