It is not safe for witnesses to submit evidences regarding the war crimes and human rights abuses in Sri Lankan embassies in foreign countries, says UN expert panelist and human rights lawyer Yasmin Sooka.
Cabinet approved an amendment last week to submit evidences of war crimes in Sri Lankan embassy.
The ministry of Justice announced that the witnesses who live in foreign countries can submit their evidences in respected Sri Lankan embassies.
Even though this move is appreciable, this is dangerous for the witnesses, says Yasmin sooka. This may threaten the witness and his family, she added.
Further the witnesses who live in abroad still have their relatives in sri lanka, and this may threaten their life too. When collecting evidences the identity should not be revealed, Yamin sooka said.
