There is no necessity of foreign doctors to examine the rehabilitated former LTTE members who are said to have been injected with deadly drug when they were undergoing recent ‘rehabilitation’ in Sri Lankan army run camps, said Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine and Co-cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
The minister who spoke at the media conference on Wednesday (Aug 17) noted that there are 80% of Tamil doctors in Jaffna, who know the language; they can examine the rehabilitated LTTE members. I instructed Northern Provincial Health Minister Dr. Sathiyalingam, who is also a doctor, to submit a detailed report with regard to that matter.
Since there are specialists in Sri Lanka we do not need to bring foreign specialists to examine, said Minister Rajitha.
Dr.Rajitha added that if there would be a necessity of foreign specialists to examine the issue, the government would decide on the matter.
Meanwhile, Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran said in the Council that the USA is ready to conduct medical examination on the former LTTE cadres.
