Air Force Flight Sergeant arrested for hit and run death of colleague


Sri Lanka Police Sunday arrested a flight sergeant of Sri Lanka Air Force over the hit and run death of another flight sergeant whose body was found along the road with injuries.

Mount Lavinia Police in the wee hours of Saturday received information of a body with bleeding injuries lying on the road to the Ratmalana airport near the Airport junction.

The victim, who was attached to the Ratmalana Air Force camp, was identified as 40-year-old K.S. Deshapriya, a resident of Girikoda, Agalawatta.

Mount Lavinia Police finding suspicion circumstances surrounding the death launched an immediate investigation. A police team headed by the Mount Lavinia OIC, CI Roshan Pushpakumara probing the video footage from the nearby CCTV cameras found the victim who was walking along the road dazed, being hit by a van leaving the Air Force Base. The police arrested the driver of the van, who was found to be another flight sergeant, and seized the vehicle. The suspect was remanded until September 14 when he was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate.
