Relatives of the detainees have staged a protest to mark the International Day of Prisoners and urged for their release.
They stated that some Tamil detainees have spent about two decades in prisons.
The protest was carried in Jaffna by the relatives, Tamil politicians including Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam and activists.
They said those who were revenged by the judicial system during the previous regime are now being released by the current government but on the other hand, with regard to the Tamil detainees, the government has been showing different face.
The promises which were given by the government have now been forgotten, they blamed.
The relatives raised a question that those who fought for their ethnicity are being kept within walls without charges, adding that whether the cells are their graves.
