Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian S.Siritharan raised a question, “Are the Tamil political prisoners being kept for years as they are Tamil community?”
Participating at the protest in Kilinochchi on Sunday (Sep 4) to urge the government the Tamil political prisoners, said those who committed major crimes are now with the government with freedom but those who are innocent being kept behind bars without charges, adding that such impartiality is injustice.
The Tamil people supported to the new government with the expectations of solution for the ethnic crises and release of Tamil detainees but the government is not willing to grant amnesty for them, he added.
Mr.Siritharan further added that the government granted amnesty within three years for the insurgents of the JVP who committed inhumane activities, adding on the other hand the Tamil political prisoners have been kept for more than 7 years in prison because they are Tamils.
