Southern journalists taken on tour of Jaffna by Sri Lankan military

Sinhalese journalists from the South were taken on a tour of Jaffna by the Sri Lankan military last week, who briefed them on the "reconciliation process" that was allegedly underway in the region.
The journalists from various organisations were flown to the Tamil North-East in Sri Lankan air force planes, where they were greeted by military personnel.

The army then took them on a tour of various camps where displaced Tamils are now sheltering, with an official military website commenting the journalists “had the chance to realize the life style of Internally Displace People (IDP) in Jaffna”.
The military also held a “special discussion” with a panel of officials from the armed forces, where the southern press were told of the “military endeavours” on the reconciliation process.
The Sri Lankan commander of the armed forces in Jaffna Major General Mahesh Senanayaka also spoke of the “major role entrusted to journalists in Southern areas to build required awareness with regard to the reconciliation”.
