Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that the people of the Northern Sri Lanka live in harmony with freedom. Addressing the media after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visiting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe replied to an interrogation of a reporter on the ongoing rehabilitation progress after the end of the civil war, saying that it could be witnessed how the Northern people live happily if visited the region. He went on to say that the government takes steps to return the lands occupied by the military to the civilians and carries development projects with resettlement. Mr. Wickremesinghe added that the government deals with the Northern Chief Minister and other officials on rebuilding the war-affected region. He added it would take some time for rebuilding the social structure which was affected by the war, adding that proper arrangements should be made to comfort those who have been affected mentally by the war and of those women who run their families alone.
