The Sampur land allocated for the Sampur Coal Power Plant Project would not be returned rather it would be used for an alternative power generation project, said Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith P. Perera. He made these remarks in response to a question raised by JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake in parliament. He said the people of Sampur evacuated their place due to the war, and not because of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board or the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. He said the government had already taken steps to resettle the displaced people. They have been given plot of lands, he added.
