Batticaloa Grama Niladharis have staged a protest against the Batticaloa Mangalaramaya Viharadhipathi Ampitiya Sumanarathna Thera who behaved in an unruly manner and insulted a Grama Niladhari and the minority Tamils.
The Grama Niladharis are protesting wearing a black belt have urged the government to take actions with regard to this matter.
Approximately 350 Grama Niladharis who are from 14 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Batticaloa are taking part in this protest it is learnt.
The monk who’s known for his hate speech and foul talk, had tried to seize the land which is suitable and left for grazing and had retorted in an unruly manner to the Grama Niladhari who presented himself to speak on behalf of the people.

Referring to recent incidents of hate speech, including the monk’s outburst in Batticaloa, it is observed that the disturbing events come at a time when the country is still less than halfway through the political and constitutional reforms that were popularly mandated.
