The case of murder of Sumanan Sriskandarajah who was allegedly tortured and killed by Chunnakam police during their custody is to be taken up before Kilinochchi Magistrate A.A.Anantharajah today (Nov 7).
The five accused policemen who have been arrested on the directive of the court are to be produced before the Magistrate.
Mr Sriskandarajah was one of five Tamil youth who were abducted by a white van in November 2011. The group was subsequently taken to Chunnaakam police station, where police tortured them.
“They kept us in their custody at Chunnakam Police Station and tortured us with beating and electric shocks,” said one of the youth at a hearing for the case earlier this year.
Mr Sriskandarajah was one of those tortured. His body was found the next day in the Iranaimadu water tank in Kilinochchi. Sri Lankan police officials claimed that he had committed suicide.
The 5th accused, Sumanan Sriskandarajah, was hung upside down, tortured and killed in front of other suspects at the Chunnakam police station, said one of the eye-witness.
