A demonstration has taken place in Northern Provincial Council during today’s (Thursday) Provincial Council meeting.
Aggressive protest by the members of the council, demanding an immediate government response on release of political prisoners who arrested and detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
While the Northern Provincial Council’s 103rd session is taking place the demonstration was stirred by provincial councilor M.K.Sivalingam.
During the struggle, members were holding slogans as, ‘Government! Release political prisoners’, ‘Cancel the Prevention of Terrorism Act’.
Chief Minister Vigneswaran told the Council Members that the letter has been sent to the President regarding release of political prisoners and the release of lands held by the military. Then the demontration was abandoned.
