Sri Lankan army camp increases security around Koppay LTTE cemetery

Sri Lankan soldiers at the Koppay army camp which is partly built over an LTTE cemetery have been increasing security and surveillance around the camp and blocking access to surrounding public roads.

Koppay locals have planned to hold a Maaveerar Naal commemoration in front of the camp, close to the site of where the destroyed Thuyilum Illam is located.

Last year, members of the Northern Provincial Council held a ceremony at the same spot.

The soldiers have ring-fenced the cemetery with barbed wire and installed intelligence personnel in the surrounding public roads.

Motorists entering the area have also reported that their vehicle registration numbers were being noted by military intelligence officers.
