Colombo schemes new type of subservient CSD colonies in Jaffna diverting foreign aid

The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka has released 683 acres of coastal pockets of lands in Mayiliddi of Valikaamam North with propaganda it has also opened the coastal road from Point Pedro to Punnaalai for public use. Although the release of the pockets of lands as well as improved access to the coast for uprooted Tamil fishers is seen as a step in the right direction, the SL military is retaining the entire area as a sophisticated military zone, say representatives of uprooted people from Valikaamam North. These are merely pockets of civilian settlements surrounded by SL Army and Navy bases and heavy military presence. The military wants to be in possession of crucial resources and all the fertile lands while aiming to transform the resettling people into its subservient workforce, Tamil rights activists in Jaffna said.

The latest move is an attempt to create a new breed of the so-called Civil Security Division (CSD) slaves in Valikaamam North, the rights-activists commented.

SL military commander, spontaneously speaking at a ceremony last month in KKS, went on record stating that the SL military could take back everything that it ‘gives’. As the media attention on his previous remarks gave negative publicity, Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake was cautious this time with a prepared speech, where he was repeating that the latest release was a new year ‘gift’ by the SL military.

“Who is ‘gifting’ what to who is the underlying question”, commented Shageevan Shanmugalingam, a political representative of the uprooted people of Valikaamam North.

The SL military was, however, retaining 3 km of coastal road to Punnaalai as military zone while making false propaganda that it was releasing the coastal road from Point-Pedro to Punnaalai (Ponnaalai) for public use, he said.

The Sinhala army was claiming that 964 uprooted families could now return to the pockets being released close to the coast in 5 GS divisions.

However, the representatives of uprooted people from Mayiliddi said the SL military was still occupying more than 3,000 acres of their fertile soil.

In the meantime, informed sources close to Jaffna District Secretary N. Vethanayahan told TamilNet that the SL military was releasing 683 acres of pockets after securing promises from the SL Ministry of Resettlement of getting 800 million rupees for the release of lands. The money is coming from foreign assistance, they said. The foreign assistance for resettlement is now being rewarded to the occupying Sinhla military for further militarisation in the name of resettlement, they cautioned.

The occupying army and navy have relocated their camps close to the civilian settlements. Those who went to see their villages also complained that the military has put up roads through private lands.

One of the military arms caches (store) of the SL military has been recently relocated from one of the pockets being release in Mayiliddi.

However, it is believed to be still located close to the released area, they further said. While the SL military is under pressure in South to keep the arms cache away from civilian areas, the occupying Sinhala army in the North and East does not respect the lives of Tamil civilians, Tamil political observers in Jaffna said.

De-militarisation of the villages of uprooted Tamil villages in Valikaamam North should take place before the so-called release of lands, the political observers commented.
