Traffic police in Moothoor East harass Tamil youth to join Sinhala Police

The traffic policemen of occupying Colombo are stopping Tamil males between 18 and 25 years riding motorbikes in the eight villages including Champoor, Koonith-theevu and Kadatkaraich-cheanai in Moothoor East and are harassing them to join the SL police. The latest campaign is annoying the resettled Eezham Tamils. The traffic police are also registering the names of those who are being stopped and asked to join the police. “The policemen are asking to register the names first even when we politely say we need some time to think about the offer,” a 24-year-old Tamil male from Kadatkaraich-cheanai told TamilNet on Thursday.

The exercise of stopping motorbikes and harassing travellers to consider joining the police of an occupying State is just another form of harassment, the resettled Tamil families say.

While there are official and established methods for such recruitment, the latest campaign coming from the Sinhala police also exposes the pathetic state of affairs of enforced ‘reconciliation’, grassroots activists in Champoor commented.

Perhaps the US Pacific Command has questioned the Colombo Establishment how many of the native Tamils are serving in the police and the military in Trincomalee, an activist commented.

The SL Navy has been seizing the lands of Tamils especially after the US Pacific Command started to groom a marine force of the SL Navy. SLNS Vidura situated in Champoor is the training base of the Sinhala ‘marines’.

The resettled Tamils are already living under continuous harassment from the three different intelligence wings (Police, Army and Navy) of the occupying Colombo.

The extremist Sinhala Buddhist monks have joined the programme of Sinhalicisation of Moothoor East through demanding the places of worship of Eezham Tamils as sites of Theravada Buddhists neglecting the Tamil ownership of Mahawansa Buddhist places in the ancient times.
