The Court of Appeal yesterday (16) decided to announce its decision on the initial objections raised by the petitioners, in connection with the case filed against Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran and Ministers of the Northern Provincial Council Anandi Sasitharan and C. Sivanesan, in connection with the Contempt of Court charges, on 10 December.

This decision was given by a two-Judge Bench comprising Justices Kumuduni Wickremasinghe and Janak de Silva. Former Fisheries Minister of the NPC, B. Denishwaran, had filed a petition in the Court against the decision taken by Vigneswaran to remove him from his Ministerial portfolio. Having considered that petition, the Court issued an interim injunction on Vigneswaran on 29 June preventing him from removing Denishwaran from his post. Later, Denishwaran moved the Court stating that, Vigneswaran had failed to reinstate him in his Ministerial post and thus he should be held in Contempt of Court.
