At a media briefing held on Tuesday, he reiterated that all promises made under the 100-days programme, must be implemented. Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera expressed the following views: ”We brought this government into power on the basis of several key points. One of these was stopping wastage, corruption, fraud and theft. We have been unable, to date, to punish those corrupt persons who misused state property. The notion has come to us that the meting out of punishment is being delayed because they are considering the advantages and disadvantages to their political schemes. We are deeply disappointed by this. But we cannot simply move out because of frustration. We are the ones who encouraged the people to stand for this cause.” The Pivithuru Hetak organisation also noted that they cannot agree with the draft of the amendment to the constitution which has been drawn up. |
