Attempt to murder was unleashed on the leading young journalists who were engaged in reporting the news regarding the protest for clean water, reporter for Global Tamil News stated.
This attempt to murder on them was perpetrated by the Sri Lankan police, the affected young journalists said.
Two policemen carrying knives chased the journalists with the intention of assassinating them at Nallur.
Journalists who were on the way to their office after collecting the news regarding the hunger strike that continues days and nights had been blocked by the two motorists who were under influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Subsequently, the journalists who managed themselves and started fleeing were being chased up to Ariyakulam junction. Among these two, one pun on the helmet while another one did not wear the helmet.
The T-shirts that they wore seems to be the dressing style of policemen. The motorcycle that the perpetrators travelled could be noticed at the police station when the affected journalists went to Jaffna Police Station in order to file the complaint in this regard.
Though the affected journalists submitted their identity cards to recognize themselves as the journalists while attempting to file the complaint, it was not accepted by the Jaffna police.
Those who narrowly escaped from the attempt to assassination are identified as the freelanced journalists belonging to Thinakural newspaper and the Asian Broadcasting Corporation.
Meanwhile, as the time already passed midnight 12 o’clock, after registering the complaint of the prime petitioner, the affected journalists were asked by the police to come to the next morning to register their complaints and confessions.
